Shadows of the City

Recently I've been listening non-stop to Marcus Foster, a singer, musician and artist from London. His unique bluesy-soul-folk voice is perfect as a soundtrack to late-night work or a rainy afternoon. His lyrics are touching and very emotional. Fans of Damien Rice, Mumford and Sons, or more old-school artists like Bob Dylan and Van Morrison will hear a hint of these influences in Marcus Foster's voice. His songs are original, fresh and full of raw emotion. Foster's tracks Tumble Down and I Was Broken are particularly good. Other good songs are "Shadows of the City" and the slightly more upbeat "I Don't Mind".  Check out Facebook, Twitter and his YouTube channel for more songs. ("I Need to Lose You To Know" brought a little tear to my eye!).

Marcus is not only a talented musician but is also a budding artist. His work has been featured on the Saatchi Gallery's website. Twilight fans may also recognise his sound: he went to school with Robert Pattinson, and wrote the song "Let Me Sign", sung by Robert on the Twilight soundtrack. (If you haven't heard it, listen here.)

Still relatively unknown in the UK, Marcus will be playing at this year's Truck Festival at Hill Farm, Oxford on the 22-24 July. I am tempted to go just to hear him!

For more info in Marcus Foster, NME featured him in September as one of their "Radar Bands of the Week" here
