Oscar Night 2011: style drought?

This year's annual Academy Awards Ceremony took place on Sunday. As I do every year. Monday morning was devoted to judging my personal best dressed list. I must say, they were some absolutely stunning dresses (Anne Hathaway, Mila Kunis and Halle Berry spring to mind). Having said that, despite some very beautiful dresses, I couldn't help but think that the choices merged into two streams: crimson red and shimmery nudes. Overall, I couldn't help but feel just a tiny bit let down by the lack of variety this year.

Here are some of my favourites:

Anne Hathaway in Valentino

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab.

I sort of want to hate Halle Berry because I wish I had her body. But she makes it impossible when she chooses stunning dresses like this one from Marchesa.

Nicole Kidman in structural Dior Haute Couture. (Love the red shoes peeking out)

More from the blur of red and sparkly nudes:

Jennifer Hudson in a tangerine hue

Sandra Bullock in Versace

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein

Penelope Cruz in L'Wren Scott. I was not overly impressed with her dress, but she gave birth this month! That is just unfair. Also...it is very hard to look less than amazing with Javier Bardem on your arm!

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa

Hilary Swank in Gucci

Michelle Williams in Chanel Haute Couture

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhullier

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein

For me, Anne Hathaway, Halle Berry and Mila Kunis stole the show. Their dresses perfectly complemented their skin tones, and both worked the feminine but sexy glamorous look. Both kept accessories minimal and went for an elegant up do. Hilary Swank, Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock were equally (unsuprisingly) looking good.

Having said that, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed, even by normally daring celebs like Helena Bonham Carter and . I feel like there was nothing we haven't all seen before. Is there a style drought in Hollywood? Where is the variety?!
